Midnight slipped into a dark small crack in a huge mossy boulder beside the creeek, a part so close to the edge of the territorory it is unused. The crack became a smal, narrow tunnle that went on for two tail-lenghts, then opened up into a cave, two fox-lenghts in diameter. Three black birds lay next to a huge mossy nest of fern leaves, very soft moss and feathers, carefuly perpaired so as not the tiniest thorn or bur wiggled it's way through. Midnight, heivily pregnate lay donw with a small huff. Her tail toward the blackbird. Twilight, who's nest lay at the oppisite end, by the entrance, raised his head and perked his ears, all signs of sleep vanished. Midnight hissed between her teeth, panting,
"Get over her Twilight, they're coming." Twilight stood up immediatly and bolted toward her on paws swifter than a leopard. Small contrctions had started already, slightly, every time growing the least bit bigger.
Midnight curled up around three small newborn kits, suckling. Twilight, eyes round, but sadness at the corners, held a small, lifless bundle. He bowed his head and walked off, tail draggin in the dust. He didn't want to the newborn kittens to se their dead sister, who hung like a peice of fresh kill in his mouth. He slipped through the crack and didn't go far before he saw a nice spot, under the mist of a small waterfall, and under the shade of a fern. A few wild flowers grew beside the place where he buried the souless body, and tall green grass spiked up beside it to, not in the shade of the fern though. He swiftly walked back to the cave, predators might smell the blood. he slipped in and the three kittens where sleeping after their first meal and minutes in the world. Midnight mewed softly, lovingly,
"I think we should name this one Lightningstrike." She swished her tail softly over the dark tabby like herself. "and this one Dawn." She added to the dark gray she-kitten, the smallest.
"sure, what about the black one?" Twilight asked curiously, gazing at the tiny tabby one.
"How about . . ." Midnight mewed, thinking closly, "Sky?" The name suddenly brought back memories, really ones he hazily remembered about his sister, Sky. Everything had gone nearly perfect, everything exept the little one, would have been smallest, kitten who didn't make it. Dawn did look big, but Lightningstrick beat her at that by far and Sky barley touched the mark. He suddenly swooped down and grabbed two of the black birds and dropped thenbeside her head. She looked gratefully up at me, the partially stood up, avioding waking up her new childeren as she ate. He bend down and ate to, hungery, forgetting he hadn't eaten since Dawn. The sun was now at the horizon, the sky light blue, and the cloud touched the lightest shade of pink. As he finished his blackbird, the faintest sound rubbed the edges of his hearing. He twitched his ears back, hearing the noise once more. He stopped eating, he blackbird with barley it's liver, bones and feathers left, he stalked silently towards the entrance. He slipped to the crack so that his face was in line with the rest of the rock so he looked like a shadow, and tried to look around, but could only see forward.
